This is just a annoying little post to ask any of you out there:

-Do you have the new VISTA operating system yet, and if so
-What (if any) effect does it have on the Sims 2* ?

Thanks for the info,

-ZW

*or anything else on your PC.....

I, also, eagerly await the jury's judgement on this case. bounce

Sims 2 plays just about the same, but don't waste your money on Vista if you don't have to. And for god's sake, don't upgrade.

However, if you can get your hands on a free/cheap upgrade certificate, get it and stick it on the shelf until a couple service packs have come out.

I have Vista, but I haven't played more than 5 minutes since upgrading.

(Not because of Vista. I currently do not have an interest in playing the Sims.)

They're whispering to you in your sleep, Peake: "Play with us! Let us live! It's so cold and lonely in here without you!"

Does "don't upgrade" mean not to spend money on upgrading to some higher level of Vista?

I'm going to have to upgrade my graphics card Real Soon Now because my old nVidia GeForce 5200 is saturated, darn it. I'm 99.9% sure that it's the high-resolution body shapes coupled with the alpha clothing meshes that's doing it.

Don't upgrade means if your machine currently ain't broke, don't "fix" it.

You know there's gonna be multiple service packs before people think it runs nice... so just wait.

I upgraded to Vista Home Premium from XP Home... no problems:) Sims plays just fine.. I had to get another memory card though.. so actually in my case, it runs faster:)

Make sure you run the upgrade wizard thing on microsoft to make sure all of your hardware will be compatible... My laptop is only almost a year old.. so i had no trouble.. just got another 1gb memory card... Also when you do that wizard, make sure you have things like mp3 players, printers, etc plugged in.. It wil tell you if they are compatible too:)

Also, make sure you have a good graphics card or you will be unable to use the Aero theme in Vista, the glassy look...

The only issues I have w/ it.. my mp3 player isn't working on it.. and my MotoPhone Tools for my cell phone wont work... I have to use them on my desktop... And I'm not sure about my printer because that is a network printer hooked up on my desktop..

I actually really like Vista! I don't know that it is worth the $ though... It's no better than XP... just very different looking and the way things are set up are very different, like the control panel, etc.... But it was fun to learn again:)

But definetly do the wizard thing on Microsofts site, if you have an older computer, some of your hardware might not be compatible...

Here is the link for that... http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/windowsvista/buyorupgrade/upgradeadvisor.mspx

Also,... if you do get it.. I was advised by the people at Staples... If you get the Upgrade version... don't even bother to try the option that will save your files... Just do a clean install... This store here was installing Vista for free if you bought it there and they said that they haven't sucessfully installed that way, they ended up havng to do the clean install and losing files... They thought it was something on a computer that made it not work, like programs or hardware... but it wouldnt hurt anything to try... just would waste time:)

Just remembered something else... my mouse wasn't compatible, so I had to get a new one:) But I was happy to get one:)

You were lucky! shocked I've used the betas of Windows since 98, and I really have to say this is the lowest quality release they've ever kicked out the door.

My new laptop has Vista on it. I don't really have an opinion on the OS itself, except for the fact that Minesweeper seems to crash on Expert level once you get half the puzzle done...*mutters* But Sims 2 runs absolutely fine...it's got an Intel Centrino Duo processor with 2 gigs of RAM and *checks DxDiag* WOW! Thought it only had 256 megs dedicated memory but it says 512 here!!! No wonder it runs so perfectly! I can max out everything and still get ZERO lag, even downtown!

Now I can't wait to get Oblivion installed on here...*drools*

That's a pretty strong argument for upgrading my graphics card!

What flavor of laptop do you have?

Have you tried the new speed boost thing? I'm waiting for my usb drive thing to come in....
Apparently if you plug one into the computer, Vista will treat it like RAM.... I'm just wondering how that works:)
I can't wait to find out!
