I don't watch TV to speak of and don't see many movies. Love lots of
classic and semi-classic hard SF and non-silly fantasy books, so Niven and
Asimov and Harrison and Le Guin and Zelazny and M Z Bradley and I
dunno Michael Moorcock; then more recently tech/cyberpunkish stuff
like Walter John Williams, Bruce Sterling, Vernor Vinge (had lunch with
Vinge once!), and now Charles Stross and Iain Banks. Books r00l. *8)
Liked the first Star Wars movie the best (it was great) and the next two
were quite good also; haven't liked the next ("first") three as much,
and the few Star Wars books I've read were sort of fun to read but
basically disposable. Slooooooowly working my way through all the
seasons of Babylon 5 on DVD; very nice...

Yeah, I think we have watched all the way through Babylon 5 (on VHS, on TV and on DVD) - about ten times now, maybe more. Still missing a few episodes sad It has a real story arc, which is why I think I like it so much. And properly developed characters. The boys love them, I think hubby sneakily sleeps through most of them.

I used to love cinema but cannot go now, because of nut allergy issues (they often sell peanuts and even if they don't there is no guarantee that someone won't bring them in and eat em in the cinema) pale so my only choice is TV \DVD\VHS for films. Books are my friends smile

I like Iain Banks, too. And wow! Lunch with Vinge! alien

I have the first four season of Babylon 5 on DVD and I don't have the money right now to buy the finial season or B5 TV-movies set. I know haven't seen one of the tv-movies, the cut of the pilot in that set, or more half of the fifth season.

I'm definitely in the books camp. I'd guess that I read fifty stories for every movie or television that I watch.

I've seen a few episodes of Babylon 5 but never had the time to reallly get into it. I stopped watching Star Trek after The Next Generation and don't know beans about any of the versions they produced after that.

Yeah - I liked some of Next Generation Star Trek, mostly cos Picard is so charming.
Never really got into Voyager or Deep Space Nine and I can't stand the latest one - Enterprise?

Peake, the 5th season of B5 is the second best, IMHO, after the 4th. And the films are worth seeing.

I don't read much SF these days, simply because there doesn't seem to be much out there! I've read all the SF in our libraries, and haven't found many new authors that I like. I get bored with sword and sorcery stuff and horror., which in UK at least are listed with SF (why?). Are there any decent SF mags out these days?

I got interest in Alternate History works by Harry Turtledove, wrote down a list of his stuff that interested me. I can't not even half of what is on that list in my city.

If you surf around the net you can probably find them for sale somewhere. A lot of Harry Turtledove's stories were published in Analog, and might not have been anthologized yet.

His older stuff was written as "Eric Iverson" (I think I spelled that correctly), and much of that probably hasn't been anthologized.
