This does sound neat! I just might consider it installing it as soon as someone makes a "noplantpeople" hack! lol

The "Plant People" have already been poked with poking sticks on MATY, so I'm sure JMP will make one of those hacks right away.

Is there anything that the MATY crowd doesn't see fit to poke with poking sticks??? Seriously, they may have some fun hacks, but geeze....

Since Plant People (like Vampires & Werewolfs) can NOT be caused/triggered accidently, I really don't see what all the fuss is about. If you're freaked out by imagination or any sense of wonder in your game, just don't "trigger" these things! You could easily just deleate the pre-made Plant People family that Maxis has made & avoid using too much (or even any) pesticides in your garden. (Or avoid the whole garden thing at all. I can't imagine that most of the MATY fanatics have the patients for that kind of thing anyway. )

POOF! The whole "problem" is solved, & without having to endure another smart-ass, "aren't we sooooo clever & you sooooo stupid" self-praising mod/hack from the MATY bunch.

I also can't help but notice that the folks at MATY have had no "problems" whatsoever with Alien pregnacy, Werewolves or Vampires. I guess if it involves *wink wink* "sex" *giggle giggle* or the potential for violence *nudge nudge*, it's all good eh? (The Plant people are peacefull folks, after all! Of corse they can also reproduce by *snicker snicker* "doing it" *he he he* which I would have thought the MATY mindset would have enjoyed... )

***sigh***

I guess I'm just a Sims player who actually enjoys the quirky fun of the Sims Universe. I also don't feel a burning need to turn evey one of my Neighborhood Stories into a wannabe porno flick!

So, to the picked apon Plant People I will proudly say : Hey guys, you're more than welcome to hangout in my Simiverse! Thanks for adding yet another bit of fun for my already vivid imagination to tinker with!

In fact, I think I know just the type of 'hood to put you in! Hmmmm. If you'll excuse me, I have to go do some tinkering.....

The thing is, vampires and werewolves and even zombies are still fully functioning Sims. According to the reports I read, the poor Plant People and their offspring are... damaged. It's like having a hereditary worker caste. I don't like that idea one bit!

I don't see any great value judgements here. Different tastes, y'know. If you want plant people, then don't install a noplantpeople hack when they come out. For those to whom certain elements of the game are distasteful, it's good that the fans are able to remove those elements from the game.

If anyone is to be faulted, it's Electronic Arts, for their failure to include user-controlled options for werewolves, voodoo, vampires, plant people, homosexuals, punks, tantrums, aliens, flatulence, substandard appliances, incompentent police, obsessive disorders, bathroom issues, sexual predators, malaprops, dysfunctional families, and all the other "features" they threw in because they don't have the skill to design a game based on real people's daily lives.

And I just trying to play my Sims in a Teutonic community with liberal American Midwestern ideals...

Actually, many of them have huge amounts of patience (or sufficient enthusiasm to get through huge projects on excitement alone). What they don't do is... build a test case first to make sure it's a viable concept.

First day of Seasons, I'm expecting someone to spend hours creating a lot with a huge farm on it... then post about all the problems, because EA didn't expect anyone to build huge farms!

I know in Sims1, the Burb lot was a huge hassle, even with animated gnomes, because they were trying to live on the proceeds from the farm (and Tiffany's job, when she wasn't too exhausted to go). On the other hand, I had several families with a grape vine and an elderberry bush and that was plenty to keep two or three Sims in food and wine. With only two plots, I was able to build elaborate fence arrangements to keep the gophers out.

On the other hand, someone was talking about slave Sims in another thread here... if you really want to try it, just use some Plant People...

I did think of one hack that will probably be needed immediately: ShowPesticideLevel! You know Maxis ain't going to give any clues about how close you are to Plant Personhood!

Incidentally, despite all that, don't imply that I disagree with your assessment of MATY. Rolling on the Floor Laughing

However, I'd say that the particular psychoses that characterize the site's official policy seem to be more oriented toward severe kleptomania and clinical depression than an interest in sex and aliens.

That's one of the things I've come to realize I love most about the Sims, they're NOT real people. They're sims. So snuh. razz

Still doesn't mean I gotta enjoy the kids belching into the microphone on the podium.

Gack! I second the motion! (The "no playing in toilets" hack for toddlers was one of the first hacks I installed. Talk about a gross feature....ICK! )

Greg : When you list "sexual predetors" you're refering to the (bizzarly named) Romance aspiration, right??? I just want to be sure there isn't something else lurking in-game that I should be worried about....

Just so there is no misunderstanding, my little "rant" wasn't meant as a vaule jugement (allthough I can see how it could be mistaken for one) but rather a point-of-view about a hack that seems rather un-needed, given that (I am still under the impression) the "problem" it "fixes" is something you have to trigger rather than something the game tries to force on you*.

Also, as I've seen nothing about Plant People being "broken" as opposed to just another "alternate" (and avoidable) Sim-type, to me it just seemed like another chance for somemore "aren't we soooooo cool" posts for MATY. Again, I most certainly do like & use many of their hacks! It's just the attitudes there I grow weary of. (I agree completely with you miros 1 : the odds of MATY being the ones to create a pesticide level indicator- rather than Maxis- are almost certain! Still, if they would just drop the 'tude a bit.... )

That's my story/opinion & I'm sticking to it. cool

*Like the belching, flatulance, playing in toilets, eating out of garbage cans, stalking gypsy matchmaker, never ending stray pets, etc, etc, etc, etc......

Yes, by "sexual predators" I meant so-called Romance sims, especially the really gruesome NPC's that Maxis put in the game to wreck families.

There's the rub with Plant People. You have to think about it, the same as you have to think about those idiotic alien abductions and repulsive male pregnancies when your sims should be enjoying using their telescopes. I know some people enjoy those things, but obviously I don't.

Those are things that I just do not want to be part of my game, and in fact I wouldn't be interested in having the software on my computer if I had to think about them. So if a fan creates a hack to completely eliminate them, that's fantastically better than having to think about them.

On the other hand, none of this is significant at the moment because my game is broke.

Which ones are those? I see I've got lots of company in Romance hatin', I think I'd have more fun playing a Grilled Cheese sim!

And another thing, anyone else think the Pleasure aspiration is a little, well, pathetically weak on high point wants? Which makes me think of them as rather flighty, when you go take a bubble bath, play chess, then jump in the pool or whatever...you've got to *constantly* have them doing something else!

**snicker** I never thought I would ever hear a guy put (that wanna be home wrecking b*** ) Kaylyn in a "gruesome" categorey! Okay, I know you're refering to more than just her, but it still tickles me to see you say that.

As you know by some of my other posts, I agree with your take on the whole "Romance" aspisration. Not really sure what Maxis was thinking on that one.... confused

Well I still think this whole Plant People thing has got people just a little too freaked out compared to some of the other Maxian "features" (like broken/corupt codes for example) in the game, I wanted to make sure you understand that I am NOT arguing for somekinda "Save The Plant People" legislation! I totally get the whole "custumized game expiriance" thing (if you saw my Downloads folder, you would most certainaly not doubt that statement) I just didn't get why there was this instant almost fanatical backlash/focus/obsession/out-cry over something that A) hasn't even been released yet & B) will most likely pale in comparesin to some other "quirk" (sounds better than "bug" ) that Seasons will almost undoubtably unleash!

Again, this was just meant to be an opinion, not a battle cry or anything. Sorry if it came off sounding as such.

Yeah, I just saw your whole NL saga. That totally bites! I hope you get everything sorted out soon.....
