Welcome to the SimsHost Hullabaloo - we're glad to have you with us! :woohoo:

Here are a few pointers to get you started:

:pushpin: Fill out your Profile as soon as you can (by clicking the Profile link at the top of your screen) - we're nosy and want to know who you are. cyclops

:pushpin: Also while you're updating your Profile, you can upload an Avatar for your account. An avatar (in case you don't already know) is a little picture that will show below your name every time you post. The Avatar image you upload must be NO bigger than 100 x 100 pixels and the file size can be NO larger than 15K. Not that anyone is overly concerned, but just as a reminder: please do NOT upload lewd/crude images for your Avatar.

If you don't already have an image to use as your avatar, feel free to use our gallery images. To view the gallery, just click the "Show Gallery" button at the bottom of your profile screen to view and select your avatar. =)

:pushpin: And finally, treat everyone as you want to be treated.

If you have any troubles or questions please let me know! =)

Have a great time! :weee:

Regards,

~*~ Carrot ~*~

More Information for New Friends

There are a few more things that you'll want to know, so here they are! smile
The Hullabaloo's membership database is separate from the SimsHost members database. That means that you need to create separate accounts for the Hullabaloo and for SimsHost.

If you want to post messages in the Hullabaloo (which we enthusiastically encourage), you need to create your Hullabaloo membership. Look for the "Join" link at the top of the page.

If you want to access free stuff from the SimsHosted sites, you can create a free SimsHost membership. Just create the account and stop when you get to the part where you'd put money into the account.

If you want to download stuff that requries a SimsHost subscription, just add some money to your account. To do that, click on the link to Maintain Your Account on the main menu of the SimsHost site. (Or click on the link the previous sentence. SimsHost doesn't cost much, but every little bit helps us pay the costs of hosting all these sites.)

Once you've funded your SimsHost account, you will want to activate your subscription unless you expect to download fewer than than 4 things a month. You can download as a non-subscriber but (as of today, January 19, 2006) there's a 50 cents premium per download. If you do activate your subscription, the systems uses $2 a month from the funds in your account to keep the subscription going; hence, the break-even point is 4 downloads a month.

SimsHost never initiates charges and does not do recurring charges for subscriptions. If you want money on your account to maintain your subscription and download things, you have to take the action to put that money there. If you want your subscription to continue, keep the account balance above zero.

You don't need a Hullabaloo membership if you just want to read the stories and update articles and things. But it's more fun to join in the discussions!

You don't need to be a SimsHost member to be a member of the Hullabaloo. If you enjoy The Sims, you are most welcome here!

It's OK to use the same login information for both the Hullabaloo and for SimsHost, but for security reasons you might not want to do this. The SimsHost user database runs from a secure server and all user information is hard encrypted. The Hullabaloo uses the standard phpBB user database, which although it has not ever been cracked (as far as we know) might be vulnerable to hackers.

We recommend that you do not make your email address visible in the Hullabaloo database because there's a risk that a spammer could sign up as a member just to harvest email addresses.

Except for the information you make visible to other members, only the SimsHost business staff (that would be Greg, Nancy, and Scotty) have access to the Hullabaloo code and user database. So, except for the potential system cracker, any personal information and email addresses that you don't make publicly visible will only be available to the same folks who protect your SimsHost account.

We very strongly recommend that you use a secure, hard-to-guess password in both systems, especially for your SimsHost account if you have money in it.

The Hullabaloo opened in 2004 and originally it was installed and maintained by Carrot as a service for the whole SimsHost community. Eventually real life lead Carrot to close her site, wipe out the Hullabaloo, and pretty much disappeared from the net. You will still see some artifacts of those events left over from when we recovered the Hullabaloo. The most noticeable of these are old messages from Carrot that she really did write. After we recovered the system, her old account became a generic Admin account which we blame on Sheba (a fictional character in some of Greg's stories); so once in a while you will see a post from Carrot attributed to Sheba and other times it will be Greg or Nancy fooling around.

We don't have a lot of rules for the Hullabaloo, but we will delete any posts that are obnoxious, inflammatory, or inappropriate for a PG13 audience. Of course, anyone who consistently violates that simple rule will be politely escorted to the door and encouraged to go to a forum where such subject matter is welcome.

Now that you've read all this, come on in and join in the fun!

Welcome to the Hullabaloo!

If you have any questions about all this, just post a note in the "Members Help" section. Enjoy!
