help I've just done a rather drastic thing. I've reinstalled Sims 1.

Well at least I've reinstalled Sims Deluxe. The rest will follow. I want to revisit and make some stuff.

But I have forgotten, in my greyness, so much - it will be like learning a new game!

I've got lots of Sims 1 downloads on disks. But what I don't have is the checking and sorting programs to make sure it isn't crashing all the time. Any suggestions would be gratefully appreciated.

I do have SimEnhancer (but it appears to only work with the later EPs so is useless until I have the others in). So I need an object checker, a skin checker, which I think Dr Pixel made?

I want to play with each one as I put them back in. And I think the drill is to remove all downloads and skins before installing each new EP?

If you made your backups from a functional game, you shouldn't have to do much maintenance. If you actually burned the zips as downloaded, yes, you do need to check them. Since you've got backups, it's not so important that you remove downloads as you install the newer EPs.

Your SEOM and SE3D should work with just Deluxe. I think it will just ignore the files for the later EPs it can't find.

If they won't work, try ObjectID; the link is on the main SimsHost page. You can also get FileCop from the Maxis site. There are also handy programs at SimWardrobe (http://www.simwardrobe.com), if the site is still up.

no, they aren't backups, just saved downloaded zips - and SimEnhancer 3D, at least the version I downloaded from his site, does not work with Deluxe at least; I have talked to Rick about this before. OK I got SEOM to work so that's the objects sorting much easier.

And I couldn't find ANYTHING on the Maxis site (www.thesims.ea.com), what I get (maybe because it works out I am "international" ie not in UK) is a globe from where I choose a flag which gives me the UK site but then it's all about buying the games, nothing on their downloads. Have they taken it all off or am I just thick as usual?

If they really have taken it all away (or more likely buried it) there is a strong argument to host those applets on Simshost.

I have FileCop and LotManager is from Paladin's.

Yep, Paladin's = SimWardrobe.

I'm glad you got SEOM working. What error message do you get from SE 3D?

ObjectID is hosted on SimsHost. If you already have FileCop (or SE 3D decides to work), you don't need anything from the Maxis site, IMHO.

SE3D says "Stream Read Error".

I am relieved to get SEOM working as I didn't like Object ID.

Now I have Hot Date installed SimEnhancer works fine.

And EA Sims 1 goodies seems to be all at http://thesims.ea.com/us/index.html now. Note the /US/. The "international" sites seem to be all Sims 2.

The International players must not be as vocal as the US players?

Glad you found the tools tho!

No, it's more like "international" is the polite word for Third (or at best Second) world, ie not as important as the US. So we just get to buy the stuff, not get the support sad

Well sometimes that is how it feels... I gave up playing two MMORPGs because unless you are in a US timezone you might as well play by yourself.

But that said I am happy to be back with my Simmies and the Hullabaloo and other places I chat are every bit as good as an MMORPG.

As for playing MMORPG's, you might want to do a search for "Clan UK" it's a gaming group established for MMORPG players in the UK so they could organize and play together. Last I heard, they now accept players from all over Europe, not just the UK. I used to hang out with some of their members when I played Ultima Online, Everquest and Asheron's Call. A very nice and friendly group of people. They had a huge presence on Ultima Online back the old days.

Thanks. At the moment there are few MMORPGs I want to play, I'm a bit picky about the gameplay - do not like space sims (no sense of direction\dyslexia means I end up plailing blindly and rotating in space) and sword fights with monsters don't appeal. There is one I might start on again which has a lot of Euros but it's rather cliquey. At the moment I'm content with my Sims smile

In my guild on Dark Age of Camelot, we deliberately schedule afternoon events (Eastern time) so the UK/European members can participate.

What was the program to view and take pics of objects?

I thought I used to use SimExplorer but it won't let me see the images, just crashes out every time?

I mean when I have made an object and want to take a screenie of it without loading the game?

Basically, you want to see the assembled object? I use either Tmog itself or IFFPencil2.

Seems to me SimExplorer only shows the thumbnails, but I'm not sure...

I'll fiddle around some more thanks.

There's a setting somewhere in TMOG that lets you turn off the gridlines.
