A la MATYville?

This may need discussing.

Whether or not it should have a Downtown and/or a Uni, that sort of thing.

mmm - should it be Nightlife-able you mean?

That's a BIG ISSUE around here.

Maybe it should start off as a single Hood in TS2 - that would keep the size down.

EEP!

Another thought: if the neighbourhood's made using the base game only, it presents a slight problem for Self-sims. It seems that the latest version of Bodyshop is loaded, no matter which one you try to open.

And then, even if the Sim has no content which is from the expansion pack that utilises (sp?) that version of Bodyshop, any earlier incarnations of the game refuse to recognise it.

(Did that make any sense at all?)

Also, there needs to be some sort of deciding on a name for the neighbourhood. I was thinking "Barwick Green," but I don't think everyone'll get the reference.

What IS the reference? Never'eardofit? But how about Camberwick Green?

Grin

I think what version we use depends on what you expect folks to do with the Hood.

I mean, presumably each who wants to play with it will put into his/her own game, whatever EPs and hacks they have.

I think it is a bit much to expect folks making Self-Sims to strip their game right back to Sims 2 if they have normally been playing with more packs - I've found a relatively quick way to do it after months of bashing my head against it but I don't spose most would do it that way.

Scuse if I am stating the bleeping obvious, I'm trying to get clear in my head what is intended. I never actually played one of this kind of Hood before and am fascinated now.

What I think I want for a Hullabaloo Hood is just to be able to put these Sims into a Hood, in my existing game, give em some free will and let them run... the fun for me is probably more in the making of the accurate Sims and houses etc, than in the later play.

Maybe I should mosey over to VS and see what has happened there.

But that's not gonna happen till Monday at the earliest as I am tied into something in an alternative universe this weekend (ATITD).

The Archers theme tune. But I think Camberwick Green'd work.

That's the plan, anyways.

I think it might be possible to get away with backtracking as far as Uni. IIRC, most, if not all, of us here have at least Uni, right?

Edit:
Just a thought, but, what if we put the Sims & terrain up for dl as seperate files, or in a zip/rar file, and then let everyone use the resources provided to create the neighbourhood themselves?

Then there could be some mad comparison session of what everyone's done with it. That's the sort of thing a few did at MATY while waiting for Simmiecal to finish with the Simpotence version.

Would that work, at all?

That's more like what I had in mind - although I want to try making whole Hoods for download, complete with decoration and stuff. I think that would be rather fun. DIY Pleasantview, with some families and their stories already in place.
Me too!

I love the idea of making whole Hoods but the file sizes prevent me from even considering that. I can't upload or download a file that size myself and I fear it would be too expensive to generate much interest from the subscribers to make it worth my effort. I hate that as it is the one thing I would enjoy most making.

If you want to offer a whole neighborhood, I'd recommend doing it in pieces: terrain, individual lots (unfurnished), individual furnishings if there are any important bits, and either individual families or just single characters.

And the problem there is that if you want to offer families you have played to a point, with skills, jobs, relationships, etc, either you have to make them in SimPE or SimEnhancer or with cheats, or you have to make them in a totally isolated environment so they don't bring memories of lots of Townies and others with them =>> VBFBVFS problems.

It may be "safer" though less exciting, to offer them as simple Sims to put into BodyShop - so that they can be made from the CAS screen and give info about their personallities. Also better for keeping file sizes down.

I think we are coming to a consensus - to put up a simple, undecorated terrain, Sims in the way described above, (clean and probably unfurnished) houses, all made with the lowest EP combination possible to each person? Remember there's another EP coming and many will be getting that too, That means 8 possible combinations so it could be hard to find a LCD.
