The basic story plot is that a sensationalistic "reporter" named Amarilla Allspin was trying to create news where there was none by focusing on the weird and invading people's privacy, rather than writing about what's really happening in most people's lives. The moral of the story is that this is a very unethical thing to do.

So, in this story, Amarilla is attempting a character assasination on aliens. She fails miserably and gets run out of town. It all started in Chapter 167 of the Tales of Happy Valley when she got fired after attempting a character assasination on Sheik Omar. She moved to Strangetown where she tried to start her own newspaper, failed there, and came slinking back to Happy Valley with her tail between her legs.

Then even worse things happened to her. She found herself the victim of some sensationalistic news. It was the story of her life, and she couldn't write about it! Rolling on the Floor Laughing

Hmm... try this:

In this story, Johny Smith was the victim of a nasty newspaper reporter named Amarilla Allspin.

Amarilla is the bad guy. Erm... girl. Uh... woman.

I think it's the one about "opinions expressed are not those of the management."

Actually, that's good! Amarilla Allspin is supposed to be a villain in Happy Valley and it sounds like she is successful in the role.

So far she has been (a) fired from her job at the Happy Valley Tribune, (b) run out of town by the angry citizens of Strangetown, and (c) enjoyed the dubious honor of being the only person in Happy Valley ever abducted by aliens (in Chapter 242 of Tales of Happy Valley). Despite all that misfortune, it's very difficult to feel sympathetic toward her, so she must be a fairly effective villain!

The note about "the opinions of the management" was a disclaimer from her boss at the newspaper. I think that was before he hired her back.

I believe Dr. Tolad's Rejuvenation Clinic is Greg's fancy way of saying he used the Tombstone of Life and Death that you can spawn via the testing cheats in game.

Am I right? Huh? Huh??? razz

It's the Tombstone of Life and Death.

Something like:
Ctrl-Shift-C, type boolprop testingcheatsenabled true and press Enter
Shift Click on an adult sim and pick "Spawn"

Yup!

Well, in truth, with University installed the testing cheats allow you to shift-click on the sim and Set Age Young Adult without need for the Tombstone of Life and Death, but that's where I got the name for the elusive Dr. Tolad!

Thank you all. I have University, Nightlife and OFB and now they moved the "Set age" option to a baby-shaped object called Sims Mod or something like that. I'd never heard of the "boolprop testingcheatsenabled true" cheat before.

On a different note, I love Amarilla's writing style, I also think the name she got is very witty. Very well-designed carachter.

Hi Ghostman! Welcome to the Hullabaloo!

I made some notes about the Testing Cheats, here:
http://thesims2.simshost.com/cheats/boolprop/testingcheats/

Those notes are out of date with the new expansion packs but it's still a pretty good overview of what they do. On those pages, note that there are links to more detail at the bottom of each essay, in the center column.

It's beginning to sound more and more like I need to succomb to peer presure to install Nightlife and Open For Business. If I am ever to update the Testing Cheats pages I'll want to do an exhaustive test with each version of the game installed. And I'll definitely want to look up that baby-shaped object! How do you get it?
