Manse Collegium

Update June 17 2008: Manse Collegium is back on line, in this topic on Sun Sims!

Manse Collegium
Go to the topic on Sun Sims to download this lot. See link above.
Unoccupied. Mostly unfurnished, but I left the lights on for you. Trees and shrubs, too.
Warning! Huge download: 9.54 MB.
Residential lot, 5x5.
This version shows up in the University catalog. When I figure out how to convert it to a regular lot that will appear in the neighborhood catalog, I'll add another version.
Use a clean installer to filter out game hacks; there are lots of them.
I think I cleaned out all of the fan-created content, but I might have overlooked something here or there.
I made the red walls and garage doors, which are included with the house.
Parental discretion is advised: This file incudes the Sleeping Lady walls in the master bath.
The vehicles shown in the picture are available from The Sim Republic. They are not included with the house. Other vehicles are available from KILLERSIMS.
Download the file to your computer and unzip it, perhaps to your PackagedLots folder. Double-click the .Sims2Pack file to install.

Manse Collegium made its first appearance in Chapter 33 of the Tales of Happy Valley.

Manse Collegium Back Yard

The mansion has 7 bedrooms with lots of room for more. 9 bathrooms, I think. Servants quarters. 3 balconies. 4 fireplaces. Patio. Large swimming pool. Room for deck that I haven't built yet. It also has a full basement, porte cochere, garage with a bonus room above, and a helipad (of course).

I originally built it with notions of converting it to a dorm or frat house once the Bennetts have completed their college education and moved out. The house is really designed for use on campus where you need lots of desks and bookcases, but it could be furnished as regular neighborhood house (if I can figure out how to make it a regular neighborhood house).

I've play-tested this house through two university educations, and with up to 8 family members.

This link will stay in this window.[/align]

Did I leave Barry's crib in the attic? I'll bet I did. It's a regular Maxis crib.

Thanks, Carrot! I was going to test your cemetery tonight, but I just realized what time it is! *gleep*

So it'll have to wait until I get the Chronicle out tomorrow. (Obviously I forgot to do the Chronicle today. Oops!)

A Tour of Manse Collegium
Stop 1: Aerial View

Aerial View of Manse Collegium at Night

"I snapped this from the helicopter just last night," She says. "This is our home at 100 Cameron Drive, University District, Happy Valley. We call it Manse Collegium. The name is a take-off from our home in Happy Valley, "Manse Orleans."

"Cameron Drive runs north and south here, and north is toward the top of the photo."

"We were lucky to get a lot right where Cameron turns the corner onto Millhouse Drive," Greg says. "Otherwise we'd never be able to get the limo to make the turn onto the street."

"Oh, I would have just shaped the driveway differently," She says.

Stop 2: The Fountain in the Basement

The Basement

"We haven't done much with the basement," She says, "but while we're here I can show you our little secret."

"While we were excavating we struck an artesian well. I had the water tested for purity and got a real surprise! The water had some peculiar properties, so we went for further analysis and learned that we had discovered the Fountain of Youth!"

"We sell the stuff to Dr. Tolad and he sells it to you as that special tonic you drink at the Tolad Rejuvenation Clinic! I had fun building a little shrine to the fountain down here, but really it doesn't matter much. This is the same stuff we use to brush our teeth and wash our cars."

"Hey! I didn't know that!" Greg says.

"Do you realize you've never gone down to the basement since you got here?"

"Hadn't even thought about it. Well, no wonder your hormones are raging!"

"Yeah, great, isn't it?"

"Indeed!"

Stop 3: First Floor

Manse Collegium - The First Floor

"I thought I'd show you the general layout of the house before we get details," She says. "This is the first floor."

"How come your bathroom is so much bigger than mine?" Greg says.

"Because I like large bathrooms, and you don't."

"I like 'em when you're in 'em!"

"I know! Hey, could we--"

"I think maybe we should finish the tour first," he says.

"Oh, OK, if you insist!"

Stop 4: Second Floor

Manse Collegium - The Second Floor

A short trip up the stairs brings you to the second floor lobby. "We really have a lot more room here than we need," She says. "I want to be able to convert this to rentals for college students and still have room for us to have an on-campus retreat, so I left open the options to convert this area to dorm rooms."

"Originally I thought that Gloria and Della would take the two spare bedrooms, but they wanted to room together. They're much like our twins in that respect--pretty much inseparable. So they took the room over the porte cochere for their bedroom and use its antechamber for a study. I have that area in mind for the house mother's room if we rent this place to a fraternity."

Stop 5: The Third Floor

Manse Collegium - The Third Floor

"We have even more extra space on the third third floor," She says. "I tucked the servants quarters in one end and built them their own private bath, but otherwise this is just a storage area for now. With just a few partition walls, we could add some more student rooms up here."

"We actually have some more attic storage space above this floor, but we haven't even finished flooring it. I don't think there's anything up there but Barry's old crib--"

"Oh darn!" Greg says. "That reminds me! I promised Barry I'd get that down for him."

"You made a promise to a baby?"

"I made a promise to Barry!"

"Ah, yeah. I see your point. Better get the crib."

Stop 6: Servants Quarters

Manse Collegium - Servants Quarters

"While we're up here," She says. "Let me show you the servants quarters."

"They don't really need a lot of space, just room for their beds. I wanted to allow enough space for a housekeeper, maid, cook, and groundskeeper."

"We solved the nanny problem another way," Greg says.

"We sure did! I did give the servants their own private bath so that they don't have to share with the kids. If we have a lot of college students living here, that could become even more important. There's a little toilet stall tucked way behind that white door past the showers."

"OK, where to next?"

"Back balcony?"

"Suits."

Stop 7: Back Balcony

Manse Collegium - Back Balcony

"This is one of my favorite places," She says. "I like to come up here and watch the stars."

"I like to come up here and watch you watching the stars!" Greg says.

"Flatterer!"

"I do my best! Hey, did we ever unpack my telescope?"

"Not yet! You've been so busy with school that it just hasn't come up before."

"Kinda like the thing in the basement, huh?"

"Yup!"

Stop 8: Gloria and Della's Room

Manse Collegium - Room Over the Porte Cochere

"Gloria and Della each has her own private bathroom, too," She says.

"They share a double bed?" Greg says.

"Do you really want to know?"

"Hmm... no, I don't."

"They could do a lot more with their antechamber."

"I expect they will if we leave them as caretakers after the frat rats move in. Then they'll be wanting a place where they can get away from it all!"

"Good point!"

Stop 9: South Balcony

Manse Collegium - South Balcony

"The south balcony gives us a view of the sky that we can't see from the back," She says.

"And no kid noise coming through the ceiling!"

"Right!"

"Hey! You can see the girls' house from here!"

"Why do you think I chose this lot?"
