Ok, I gotta know how you get infants to do anything but lie there.

Inge Jone's crib from sim logical. I think Inge's crib is an essential accessory for any sim household if you expect to have more than one toddler.

I first saw the want to have a sibling abducted in the Curious brothers. It might just be that after being abducted, Knowledge sims want to see their loved ones share the adventure.

I think I've only ever seen it in the Curious household...

Do you play a lot of Knowledge sims? Did they get abducted?

This has only shown up in households with Knowledge sims who have experienced abduction, but I've never before seen sims so incredibly obsessed with it. All of the members of this household are Knowledge sims and of course Jeannie and Lycan have been abducted so many times that I no longer bother to keep count.

I play a lot of Knowledge Sims who insist on looking through the telescope, but only the Curious brothers have actually been abducted.

Maybe the game is actually clever enough to spin up those Wants proportional to how often abductions actually happen in the house; that'd be sensible! *8)

Use the expensive telescope and elevate it above ground level.

It also helps to whistle and wave at any flying saucers that might happen to be passing by.

That sure looks neat. But how did you get the infant to stand up?

Standing up is part of his escape act. The infant does the same thing toddlers do until he gets out, and then he's stuck on the floor.

Ah, that explains it. My Sims like pointy roofs and one story houses, so the telescope ends up in either the side yard or the bay window in the living room.

I read somewhere that being abducted is a sort of skill; that the game counts how many times you have been taken and the skill increases with each - no limit. So I assume the Sims who have been abducted more (and liked it, eg are Knowledge Sims) work this way...

After several experiments, I've found that alien abduction does seem to be a very rare event. I had a household with six adults, all Knowledge sims, stargaze all night for three nights in a row. No luck; no a single abduction.

Hmm... maybe if I interrupt the stargazing sessions and then have them go back to the telescope it will improve the odds. It could be that abduction is triggered at the beginning of the stargazing event rather than the number of ticks. (Not to mention chiggers and mosquitos.)

From the Google cache of a discussion on VariousSimmers about a TwoJeffs hack to increase alien abduction:

Quote:
Each cycle takes roughly 6 minutes game time; so 10 cycles represents about an hour of Stargazing.

Cycles Maxis TwoJeffs
----------------------------
1 0.05% 0.02%
10 0.50% 1.09%
20 1.00% 4.12%
30 1.49% 8.90%
40 1.98% 15.16%
50 2.47% 22.58%
60 2.96% 30.75%
70 3.44% 39.31%
80 3.92% 47.87%
90 4.40% 56.13%

So stargaze for nine hours, and you have nearly a four-and-a-half percent chance of abduction!

So, like, never... *8)

I got a special telescope from simslice - http://www.simslice.com - looks a little different to the standard one and I think lets you abduct your own and visiting Sims, even NPCs...

There was also a hack on mod the sims 2 but it gave me some problems.

It's easier to just turn on the Testing Cheats and shift-click on any telescope if you want to get a sim abducted.

I think I'd only do this if a teen really really needed to get the Abduction Survivor Scholarship...
