In SimPE, on the Nightlife tab when you're viewing Sim descriptions, there's an option for tattoos on the list of traits that determine chemistry, though that option isn't available in game when setting turn ons/turn offs. I have also heard that the vampire skin is actually a full-body blue-ish tattoo and not a skintone like the alien skin is.

My question is: how do you create a tattoo that isn't part of the actual skintone or part of a piece of clothing, like some of the Maxis defaults with tribal markings around the arms, only visible on those outfits? I can see definite possibilities here, but every time I've seen a skin with tattoos it's been on the actual skin itself, not as an addon. I'd like to be able to add tattoos without having to create a duplicate skintone and doing some fancy work with SimPE or whatever to change the skintone the Sim is using; kind of like adding glasses or piercings or other accessories. Is this something that was intended for the game and taken out at the last minute? Or can it be done by creating a tattoo like an accessory?

(heh...I'm asking this when I haven't even attempted to make my first recolor, let alone modifying/creating skintones!)

It seems to me I've seen it in BodyShop somewhere...

Ahh, ok...I guess I'll learn more once I have the time to start seriously playing around with it.

Tattoo's that are associated with one outfit can be thought of as part of a skintight layer of clothing:
1) Choose an outfit that normally has bare skin or skintight clothing in the desired area.
2) Put the colors of the tattoo in the colored texture file.
3) Using the colored file as a guide, paint the tattoo white in the alpha file.

Tattoo's that are assigned to the Sim and stay on all the time: I know I've seen them, but simply can't find them in BodyShop! The closest I could find was full face makeup.

Yeah, it just seems like overkill to me to duplicate a skintone just to add tattoos. Seems to me like there ought to be a way to make them addable and removable in game somehow so you don't have to go through all that trouble.

For facial tattoos the full-face makeup in BodyShop is the thing:

Maybe there's some way (in BodyShop or externally) to extend that kind of tattoo to the rest of the body? (I have the impression that the vampire's skin color is this kind of "tattoo", and it's full-body, so maybe?)

Yup, there seems to be a disconnect between that Turn-On and what the game supports. I don't know of anything explicitly called a tatoo in the game, though the face makeup comes close.

If body tatoos exist in the game, they must have been added with Nightlife. With the base game and University the only way to do tatoos south of the neck is to make it part of a skin tone.

Moraigne made a cool gizmo to apply tats to your Sims. If you need to know, I'll start a thread over on Sunsims!
