Hi Greg and thanks for introducing me to another sims 2 site. I love the work. Been trying to get bodyshop to work on my computer but no luck yet. I will hopefully someday be able to do the type of work you and warlokk do. once again thanks for the outfit and introducing me to a great site.

You're welcome, DX!

As far as I know, if The Sims 2 will run on your compuer, then Body Shop will, too. If you have a lot of sims in your SavedSims folder, it might help to move out the ones you don't think you'll be using right away. They're only needed when you want to clone them while creating a new character in Body Shop or the CAS screen.

When I'm going to concentrate on attractive faces, I move my Downloads folder out of the game.

Once I've got the face, I save it, quit Bodyshop, figure out approximately what the Sim is going to wear, and just put those files back in.

That is an excellent idea, Rose. On my machine (dual 3.0 GHz P4 processors + 1.5 GB of memory) it takes something like 10 minutes for Body Shop to load.

It might take even longer than that. I've never timed it precisely but it's long enough that I always start it up and then go do something else. The worst part is the several minutes of waiting before there's any response at all; the only indication that I correctly double-clicked the Body Shop icon is the disk drive's light.

I'm trying to think if there's a good way to do the same thing when you install a new sim. You want your downloads folder in place so that Clean Installer will check for duplicates, but it would be nice if only those things would be loaded when you start up Body Shop.

Um, I don't use Clean Installer on Sims. I use MultiSims2PackExtract.

It splits everything out of the pack into the same folder where the Sims2Pack file was, then I drag the pieces by hand to folders in Downloads by creator or site. You'll have one file that's a huge long hex number. That's the Sim itself. Drag that one to SavedSims.

Aha! That's a way to do it with a downloaded sim. You could...

  1. Move Downloads folder out of \The Sims 2.
  2. Run Clean Installer, or that other gizmo that Rose mentioned, to install the new sim. This will create a new Downloads folder unless you've already done that manually. The new folder will contain only the stuff for the new sim. Don't forget to copy over any extra meshes you'll need.
  3. Start up Body Shop. It should start fast with a clean Downloads folder.
  4. Have your way with the newly downloaded sim.
  5. Save and quit.
  6. Remove your new Downloads folder.
  7. Put the old Downloads folder back in place.
  8. Use Clean Installer again, but this time tell it not to install either the sim or the duplicate items.

That will leave you with your new sim and all the required extras installed in your full game. If you modified the sim in Body Shop and saved, then your modified sim will also be there.

You might need to copy over some meshes from your bulging Downloads folder, but that should be trivial.

Right. I think I've got that covered in step 2.

I suspect it was a dropout caused by a verbosity jam at the input terminal. Step 2 has worse rhythm than our bad poetry.
