Here is a rarity from me.....a recipe with real measurements, for Almond Spice Cookies. This is one was found in an old cookbook owned by my Bavarian German Grandmother....the recipe was written in the margins-not in the cookbook proper. Modern additions by myself.

1/2 cup butter (or margarine)
3/4 cup sugar
1 egg (or equivalent egg substitute)
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
1-1/4 cups white flour
1/4 teaspoon EACH of cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves.
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
pinch of salt if you use salt
1/2 cup chopped almonds

Cream butter (margarine) and sugar in a mixing bowl. Add in egg (or substitute) and almond extract. Combine the dry ingredients and add them to your creamed mixture. Stir in almonds. Drop by rounded spoonful on to greased (cooking spray is great for this) cookiesheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 9-11 minutes or for me till the edges are golden brown. Cook on kitchen cloth or wire rack. Makes about 5 dozen small cookies....fewer larger ones.

ENJOY!

I think the Almonds (if very finely chopped) substitute for the flour.

Sharp eye there, Greg! Yes, I missed the flour when I was typing it in. See I'm not good with measurements. wink It's corrected now as I edited the post. Thanks for spotting that!

Amusement: I noticed that there was only 1/4 teaspoon of baking powder and was wondering how much flour the baking powder went with. That's when I couldn't find the flour.

It was behind the coffee instead of on the third shelf of the pantry.
