Rooms to Let
Bonus Part IV: Nerdiness Rampant
(Running a big well-endowed lot with two unrelated adults and one unrelated teen, none of them in any complicated romantic tangles, is really fun! I should probably give Rooms to Let its own thread, but since Joan Danvers features prominently in this part, I figure it's still okay. Hard to divide up the stories when they're all so interlocked anyway...)
Whole lotta skillin' goin' on.
As I was playing just now I thought to myself "whoa, these three sure want to spend alot of time building skills", and then I realized that they're all Knowledge Sims! D'uh.
When Joan was out at school and Brandi was out Specializing, Taylor invited Candice over. Then Joan got home, and well...
"Hey Taylor and whoever you are, I got an A+!!!"
I thought kids only did this with parents. Guess not! Taylor annoyedly shoo'ed her away and went back to sleep, which I thought was unusually sensible; although he did get a "Cheer" in his queue. I cancelled it.
Taylor got up soon after, did more skilling, and went back to bed; Candice woke up and came out to eat.
"I think you might have been asleep when I mentioned this A+ I got?"
So despite her strong opinions about fashion and her thirst for independence, Joan is somewhat the nerdy bookish type that I originally imagined after all. Never can tell!.
(Okay, now I have to go put computers back together and go to the grocery and stuff. Cheers!)

The Great Experiment
Part I: Into the unknown
"Honey, you know we think your marrying Georgia was the best thing in the world! And we know you want to adopt and all, and that's wonderful! But remember, if you ever want to get, you know, all big with a child that's biologically yours and hers, the TOLAD module is just about perfected, and I'd love you two to be guinea -- um, some of the first to benefit from it!"
The Thrills and Chills of having a Mad Scientist for a Mom.
I'd been planning forever to use the testingCheats to get Jane pregnant by Georgia, but it took me a long time to find the time and work up the courage.
Time passed. Jane and Georgia's adopted son Justin grew into an adorable child. Jane's Dad John became an elder. Little sister Joan became a teenager and moved out on her own. And finally Jane took her Mom up on that offer.
Although the actual procedure would be done in Jean's lab, Jane and Georgia decided to mark the occasion with a special baby-making Woohoo.
Thinking about new family members.
Jane seems a little nervous there.
Did this time seem different from all the other times?
It was a lovely emotional experience.
A lovely emotional experience that we get to snoop on!
Afterward, with Georgia peacefully asleep, Jane went back to the lab.
Into the unknown.
If there's one thing you don't want anyone taking pictures of, it's you being artificially inseminated by your Mom.

The Great Experiment
Part II: Progress
Jane came out of the lab thoughtful, for the obvious reasons.
What does the future hold?
Actually there was a goofy purple heart in the thought bubble, but I didn't think that was quite the proper sober and contemplative mood, heh heh.
Would the experiment work? Jane woke the next morning feeling different, uncertain.
Feeling, in fact, nauseated.
We'll skip the barfing pictures; you've seen them before...
The uncertainty was partly resolved in short order.
What's this?
She's so cute.
Jane had a relatively easy pregnancy (Justin got into private school during it, in fact.) The growing bulge did not interfere with the good things in life.
Belly Tilt!
She did a lot of dancing and making out, too.
And eventually...
"Georgia! Come quick!"
Actually Georgia was sitting on the toilet right across the room; very convenient, if not photogenic.

The Great Experiment
Part III: Outcomes
A moment later, Jane gazed enraptured into the eyes of her new baby girl.
Awwww!
Love these pictures.
And a moment later, she gazed enraptured into the eyes of her other new baby girl!
Incredible.
Two sets of twins in eight births in my neighborhood, I think? Must be all that spaghetti, hee hee hee.
The proud parents emerged from the bathroom to show off the new family members.
Talk about triumphant.
OMG, now I've got to buy another crib and more toys, and expand the nursery, and...
The grandparents couldn't have been happier.
Coochy coochy!
Is that Jan or Jen thinking about herself alreay? Or about her sister? Do babies even have thought balloons?
So the Great Experiment, my first-ever use of testingCheats (my gosh, there are a lot of fascinating things in those menus!) was a success, and the Tombstone of Life and Death gave Jane a pregnancy, and Jane and Georgia a genetic child. Or two genetic children, actually. Both girls. (Sheesh! This isn't going to help the neighborhood heterosexuality rate any.) And I didn't get the Mysterious Choking Death Glitch even though I did save between using the TOLAD (it even plays the lullabye!) and Jane's first bump showing. The Goddess is kind!
Things I keep forgetting to do: check John's memories to see if he has bad memories around Joan's moving out, make sure he knows that the new twins are his grandkids, look in the lab to see if the TOLAD is still here or if it goes away when you save and reload. And something else I forget... *8)

DC, I know I started reading a NEW post of yours this morning ... somewhere ... and ended up here.
But you know I'm glad I did. As everyone's said, thanks for the post!

Not impossible. Only if it makes narrative sense, of course. *8)

I especially loved this line from your previous update:
"Hey Taylor and whoever you are, I got an A+!!!"
for some reason, that just cracks me up!

That was one of the funnier things my Sims have done. I tell ya', these stories just write themselves...

Brief update for Danvers fans: Joan Danvers (who left Rooms to Let the other day) has now arrived at college, settled into her room, and even had her Very First Kiss! (Can gross smooching behavior be far behind??)
Pictures, for no particular reason, featured on my weblog rather than embedded here this time.
One item of possible interest to Sims geeks *8): Joan seems to do college assignments in 45 minutes, rather than the exactly-one-hour that it takes all my other Sims. She does have mickle skill points compared to all the other college Sims that I've run, due to being Knowledge and having hung out at the Geek Paradise of Rooms to Let for so long. But I don't remember reading anywhere previously that being Knowledge, or having high Logic, or anything, make assignments go faster. Is this a well-known thing? Or am I perhaps imagining it?

Rather than post this one here (it's got lots and lots of pictures, and nothing in the least bit noteworthy actually happens!), I'll just point to it: the Danvers twins are now toddlers. More or less the standard and completely uninteresting toddler twins birthday story, but with at least a couple of cute pictures among the dozen or so.
(Also my Sims Stories page now has an RSS feed, because I like making RSS feeds.)
One of the cuter pictures from the story, for those in a hurry:
When twins attack...
Aren't they cuuuuuute?!
(Discussion is of course most welcome here, I just didn't want to subject everyone to all the pictures. This post was originally made, in a slightly different form, over on H4. Void where prohibited, licensed, or taxed.)

Yup! Definitely adorable li'l critters!
What's an RSS feed? Is making an RSS feed like trying to make a horse drink?

Only vaguely. *8)
RSS is the current Cool Modern Way for a website to announce what's recently changed on it by a standard mechanism so that people who want to follow lots of different websites can have a single program (an RSS client) that can tell them which-all of the forty-leven different websites they're following have new stuff to read on them. It's been All The Rage in the weblogging world for awhile now. (There's another format, called Atom, for doing the same thing. They're semantically almost identical, but people are having lots of fun arguing about Which Is Better, because people are silly.)
Here's Mark Pilgrim on the subject, fwiw. There's at least one phpBB mod that creates RSS feeds, and if I actually used an RSS client regularly myself I'd definitely be urging it on y'all Hullabaloo admins...

I tried the Socializing Babies trick with the Danvers twins, and it worked just great!
"Hey Jan, what's the formula for laminar flow over a boat keel, again?"
They could both talk at this point, but neither could walk; their Grampa John got the toys out for them.
They also discussed CDs and schoolroom furniture.
(In the same session of playing the Danvers lot, Georgia brought home Eleanor Raptor from work, Eleanor got all upset when John and Jean kissed ("How dare you cheat on me with your wife!!") and I think Eleanor and John are finally out of love (it cost Eleanor 3500 aspiration points, but she can afford it), and Justin grew into a teenager, and Jan and Jen both learned to walk (Jane had to use the Energizer after that), and I finally got everyone's aspirations platinum (thanks partly to Justin getting his first scholarship) so I could contentedly save, and I was strongly reminded why I'm always slightly reluctant to go in there. Twins, not to mention seven-person lots, are so much work! Jean still hasn't found an opening in the Criminal track; maybe next time.)

Another Busy Day
I. The setup
So to fill in some of the details of the day described in small print a few posts ago: Joan was visiting from college.
A nice family meal.
That's Joan in the hat. Georgia is at work, Justin is at school, and the twins are probably sleeping.
Georgia brought a friend home from work.
Best friends with a Raptor.
At this point Eleanor is the CEO of the company where Georgia is Junior Executive, or something like that. They've become great friends; there's at least one story over at the Raptors' place that I should post about that sometime. Eleanor has not yet tried to seduce Georgia.
And Justin intercepted a passing neighbor kid.
"Hello, neighbor child! Is my blazer not spiffy?"
"And please ignore my Moms; they're always carrying on like that."
With this much going on (and recall that Eleanor long ago seduced John, the man of the house, Georgia's Dad and Justin's Grampa), something or other was sure to happen...
