My First SimPE Object!
Well okay, so it was really just Wizards of SimPE, which is about as hard to use as a paper airplane *8), but I'm still proud of myself.
Gina admires Miss Kinski.
It's a 'recolor' of that Bridge picture, using an image snarfed from the Web, with the frame silvered to match Gina's kitchen's color scheme.
Gina, by the way, now has a new LTW to be a Hall of Famer. Which seems entirely out of character! But with her skills and social network and store of Elixir. it probably wouldn't be too hard. Hmm...

Looking at this in context, it looks almost too detailed or something for the TS2 world. I wonder if I should try blurring it a bit or lowering the contrast or smudging it some or something. Hmmm... Seems like there are some subtlties to this!

Maybe try "posterize"?

Okay, how did you do this? I'm asking because I've been wanting to make paintings like crazy, but SimPE tells me it's not possible to clone paintings yet. :gah: |
Thanks! The secret is that this isn't actually a new painting; it's just a 'recoloring' (lol) of the usual bridge painting. So it doesn't show up in the catalog by itself; instead you pick the bridge painting, and as long as CEP is installed you see it as an alternate "color" of that.
If you have SimPE installed, you probably also have Wizards of SimPE (likely right next to it in the Start menu or whatever). I gather it's intended to collect a whole bunch of "Wizard" style walkthroughs of common tasks, but right now all it has is a push-here path through recoloring objects. But that by itself is real useful! Let me know if you try it and it gives you any trouble, or if you have questions about the process (I'll try to remember which buttons I pushed). Just like Body Shop, it requires an external program to edit the exported image before you re-import it...

Interesting thought, maybe I will. I think the current version is sort of growing on me, though. *8)
(Gina's an MVP already! I can imagine the dialog:
"What do you mean, you're putting her on the All-Star team?"
"Well, she's a star, isn't she?"
"Yeah, a *TV* star! A *cooking show* star!!"
"Look, the marketing guys insisted. She'll bring in millions of extra viewers, they said."
"Sheesh, a Celebrity Chef at shortstop. What next?"
"Well, they did also mention MVP..."
But it's already 1am, and I have work tomorrow! So no Hall of Fame for her tonight...)

Thanks DC . . . =)
Yep, I've done re-colors of a few things before and had fun doing those. When I try to clone any of the paintings (even before NL) SimPE tells me it's not possible to by saying "Sorry, the object you selected can't be recolored yet". Strange . . .
Which version of SimPE are you using? I wonder if it matters . . . . I just last night downloaded the most recent one.
* would you mind if I split this topic and put this SimPE discussion over in the SimPE forum? (just checking) *

Don't know, I'm afraid. Pretty recent, but it's at home and I'm at work. (I might possibly remember to look it up when I get home.) Did you get the can't-clone message from SimPE itself, or from Wizards? It was Wizards that worked for me (haven't tried cloning in main SimPE).

Thanks DC . . . =)
I've split the post and put the SimPE parts in the SimPE forum. And if you're reading this, you've obviously found it. =D
Yep, I got the ""Sorry, the object you selected can't be recolored yet"" message in the SimPE Recolor Wizard.
I can't understand what's giving my version of SimPE "gas" but it seems to have a major case of it . . . :doubt:
Any guidance/pearls of wisdom would be greatly appreciated.

I could always recolor paintings without using the wizard. I did it that way because at least when the wizard first came out...you didn't get an option to do anything to the frame, just the painting part. I like to do frames too so always used Object Workshop for it.
Did you use the latest version of SimPE? I asked because I did download that but thought it wasn't working properly for re-coloring yet so decided to wait. Or so I thought I read on the SimPE website. If it works now, I'll get busy.

I'm an utter newbie at all this, but I can now tell you that I'm using SimPE 0.44.2046.26185 (that's quite a version number!). Wizards doesn't seem to have its own separate version number.
(What are the NVidia DDS Utilities that I don't have, and in what sense would my recolors be "higher quality" if I had tham? The Wizards of SimPE Options screen scolded me about it...)
Maybe the version that you have is halfway toward being Nightlife enabled, and some stuff got turned off in the proceess? Or maybe since/if you have NL installed and I don't, SimPE can't deal with your objects? (Did paintings get renumbered or something in NL? But then I wouldn't expect the old CEP to work on them either. Hmm...)

DC,
I don't know exactly what's not working in the newest version. I did read that the CEP needs to be updated for NL and it's being worked on. The impression I got was that recoloring wasn't working yet but the editing portion like for neighborhoods was. I could be wrong is my I was asking what version you used because your painting turned out fine and from the screenshot..appears to be working fine in game.
The NVidia DDS, you spoke of, do make a difference. I noticed my pictures were clearer and sharper than the ones I made without it. For me, the different was about 40 to 50% increase in quality. My video card isn't that great so maybe with a better video card the difference would be less?

Another point to note is that I don't have NL installed, and I'm pretty sure Carrot does.

How odd! I can't quite tell myself a story about how that would work. Do they somehow do something to the image on disk that Photoshop can't? What would that be? Very strange. (My only worry at the moment is that my picture is too sharp and clear in comparison to the visual feel of the rest of the game, so maybe it's good that I don't have the nvidia stuff installed lol.)
